Export Quota for Organic Sugar
What Happened
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notified a fixed export quota of 50,000 metric tonnes for organic sugar per financial year. This move removes organic sugar from the restricted category of general sugar exports. APEDA has been appointed as the nodal agency to monitor and allocate these export volumes.
Why It Matters
It balances domestic food security with the need to incentivize high-value organic farming and improve the global market share of Indian organic products.
