[Amishav]

Amishav (Hebrew for "My People Return") is an Israeli association and non-profit organization dedicated to locating and reconnecting with the descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel dispersed across the world. The institution was created in the 1980s by Rabbi Eliahu Avihail to solve the problem of finding these lost communities and facilitating their return to Israel.

The organization has a significant connection to India, as its founder, Rabbi Avihail, first learned of a Messianic/Jewish group in northeastern India in 1983. After traveling to the region multiple times in the 1980s to investigate their claims of Jewish descent, he named the community the Bnei Menashe, who are from the Chin, Kuki, and Mizo ethnic groups. Amishav's mechanism involved locating these descendants and assisting them in aliyah (immigration to Israel). Starting in the late 1980s, the organization brought small batches of the Bnei Menashe to Israel on tourist visas.

The concept connects to the broader idea of aliyah and the Ten Lost Tribes. The work of supporting the migration and settlement of the Bnei Menashe was later taken over by another organization, Shavei Israel, from the 2000s to 2020. Separately, the name Amishav was adopted in 2010 by the Bnei Akiva youth movement for a program to help integrate Olim (new immigrants) youth into Israeli society. The original organization continues its work with other groups, such as the Pashtuns of Afghanistan.
