The AH-64 Apache is a military concept, specifically an American twin-turboshaft attack helicopter designed as a highly stable aerial weapons-delivery platform. Its origin lies in the U.S. Army's Advanced Attack Helicopter (AAH) program, initiated in the mid-1970s to replace the AH-1 Cobra. The prototype, the YAH-64, first flew on September 30, 1975, and the helicopter was developed to solve the problem of providing all-weather, day-or-night attack capabilities, particularly against armored forces. It entered U.S. Army service in April 1986.
The mechanism of the Apache involves a tandem cockpit for a two-person crew and a lethal array of armaments. It carries a M230 30mm chain gun beneath the fuselage and can be armed with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rockets on its stub-wing pylons. The Indian Air Force has inducted 22 Apaches, and the Indian Army recently received the final batch of its six AH-64E helicopters for the 451 Army Aviation Squadron in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The most recent change is the AH-64E Apache Guardian, which incorporates advanced features like improved digital connectivity, more potent T700-GE-701D engines, and the ability to control unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
