TEXMiN

The Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining Foundation (TEXMiN) is a Section-8 company (non-profit institution) established at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. It was founded in 2020 (incorporated on Oct 08, 2020) under the aegis of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) programme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

The foundation was created to solve the problem of technological stagnation in the Indian mining sector by developing commercially feasible solutions using Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) like AI/ML, IoT, and robotics. Its core objective is to drive the transition to Mining 4.0.

TEXMiN functions as a Technology Translation Research Park (TTRP) mandated to act as a think-tank for product development, commercialization, and capacity building. Its mechanism focuses on achieving 3S Mining (Safe, Smart, and Sustainable Mining) by developing CPS-based technologies for underground mine safety, low-cost monitoring, and Decision Support Systems. It also runs incubation programs like the TEXMiN Starter Cell and Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) to support deep-tech startups.

The institution is closely connected to the National Critical Mineral Mission and recently, in June 2026, it formally launched the Satellite of the UK-India Critical Mineral Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO) in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. This initiative, which aligns with the India–UK Technology Security Initiative, uses advanced technologies to enhance visibility and resilience across critical mineral supply chains.
