The term Viksit Bharat (Developed India) is a comprehensive concept and long-term government vision to transform India into a developed nation by 2047, marking the 100th anniversary of its independence. The vision was first articulated around December 2021 as a roadmap to achieve all-round development, moving beyond the status of a developing country and aiming to eliminate poverty.
The mechanism of the vision is structured around four pillars: Yuva (Youth), Garib (Poor), Mahilayen (Women), and Annadata (Farmers), whose empowerment is central to the strategy. Key objectives include achieving a USD 30-40 trillion economy and a per capita income of USD 15,000-18,000 by 2047. The vision also focuses on five themes, including a Thriving and Sustainable Economy, Innovation, Science and Technology, and Good Governance.
Viksit Bharat connects to several existing government initiatives, such as Make in India, Digital India, and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. A significant recent change is the replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) by the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025. This new statutory framework aligns rural employment with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and increases the guaranteed wage employment from 100 days to 125 days per rural household per financial year.
